This app is a perfect follow-up to their app about learning hiragana and katakana! The phrases are helpful and I love that it teaches some kanji as well. I highly recommend it!

This free version is very very useful I cant imagine the other one. Its a different approach, Im a lazy learner and this has been helpful.

This free app has helped me ALOT in learning hiragana. Very easy lessons with pronunciation and quizzes that are basic yet help you. Also have flash cards/ study cards that you can use to help you. Planning to purchase the $9.99 one but this free one is already great. Highly recommend to those who want to learn Japanese.

Lots of words and lessons in the free version. I will buy the upgraded version when I learned everything in the free app.

The only thing that it needs is more references to what the symbols look like to help me remember them. Other than that, its great! Ive learned the hiragana symbols and can read it within 4 days!

I updated to this version a little while ago and I was disappointed. In this new version, many of the audio files would not play during quiz mode. Until this is fixed, I will not upgrade.

Needs furigana or kana readings on study cards. Romaji is not for serious students, and kanji is learned gradually. Otherwise there is some good content here.

It may not be the best in the world, but Im I do think that it is very helpful! I use it all the time. It has its ups and downs, but over all I love it!

though some of the phases are.... umm...... random..... like "Id like to try skydiving sometime" (which is weird cuz me and my friend talk about going skydiving ALL the time!) and "want to make a snowman?" but theyre all really funny!!! this is SUPER helpful!!!

Although I am not all the way through this app and have just started, I have already learned a lot of phrases! This app is great for beginners that want to learn the basics.

This app no longer updates on my iPad 1 (and no, Im not interested in a new iPad, thank you). Very frustrating.

I used this app last summer to learn japanese (especially Hiragana) and it was awesome! I like the part where it shows you the proper way to write a character/symbol! I had to focus on school though and probably forgot almost everything, but I think I just need to refresh my memory back! Ill try to learn this again this summer :3

Dont get me wrong this app is awesome, except the sound is not working now that apple wants to update the system to ios 7. Please fix it, as soon as possible! Was gonna buy the upgraded version except the sound is not working. Please! Me and my daughter is learning lots of stuff on this app! Thank you!

Great app, the best you can do short of learning from a native speaker or visiting the country. Now all I need is the motivation to use this app more often!

It goes into detail when to use which wiring system and the quizzes and lessons help with memorization. The only issue I have is with the flash cards since they have the romāji on the side with the kana. Like I want to learn how to read it without guidance, hence the flash cards. Other than that, no issues, Id recommend it to a friend leaning Japanese writing.

It is good. Few problem I hate but youll get through. Although wish you could write on the screen for the quiz so itll be easier to understand the writing without hearing it.
